About Infinity Constellation
Professional services firms have historically grown by adding headcount. Infinity Constellation is built on a different thesis: a small team, led by an outstanding credentialed practitioner and paired with an AI backbone that handles everything else, can now do what used to take dozens of people.
We are building independent, high-margin business units inside a single company. Each unit is built around one or two core people and supported by Infinity's technology platform and our engineering and product teams, which take over HR, accounting, finance, and data-processing work. The practitioner keeps selling the same service to the same buyers at the same or better quality, but serves far more clients per person. Pension and retirement plan actuarial work is one of our three founding verticals.
The Role
We are looking for a Managing Director to found and lead Infinity's Pension & Retirement Plan Actuarial business unit. You will be the credentialed actuary whose sign-off stands behind the work, and the leader who builds the client base and defines the offering. You will build a practice that carries far more plans per person than a traditional actuarial shop, with Infinity building the tools that take over the analytical labor.
This is an entrepreneurial role with real upside. You shape the service offering, the team, and the tooling roadmap, and you share directly in the value you create.
About the Practice
The work covers the calculations and filings that keep US employer retirement plans funded, compliant, and properly accounted for: funding valuations, accounting disclosures, and regulatory reporting. All of it requires a credentialed actuary's sign-off. In most firms, much of the underlying analysis is done by non-credentialed analysts using proprietary or third-party software, with the actuary reviewing and signing. That split between credentialed judgment and analytical labor is what Infinity's AI backbone is built to take over. The work is regulatory and recurring: plans need annual valuations and filings regardless of the economy.
What You Will Do
- Lead the business unit end to end, including strategy, client relationships, quality, and financial performance.
- Serve as actuary of record, with sign-off authority on funding valuations, AFTAP certifications, Schedule SB and related filings.
- Originate and grow the client base, bringing a portable book of business or building one quickly through your credibility and relationships.
- Define the offering, from purely actuarial consulting to something closer to the bundled model larger competitors run. We expect you to have a strong opinion.
- Decide which parts of the work (data preparation, funding and ASC 715 accounting reports, Form 5500 and other form completion) move to an AI-driven workflow first.
- Work with our engineering team on the calculation engine. Near term, we will run existing third-party valuation software (such as ProVal) in parallel with an Infinity-built alternative, validate that outputs match, and retire the third-party tool once we trust our own.
- Hire and develop analysts and support staff as the book grows, keeping the team deliberately lean.
- Partner with other Infinity business unit leaders on cross-selling to shared clients.
What We're Looking For
- Enrolled Actuary (EA) credential, or equivalent authority to sign US funding valuations. ASA or FSA expected; MAAA or FCA a plus.
- 5 to 15 years of US defined benefit actuarial experience, typically as a Senior Consultant, Consulting Actuary or Actuarial Manager at a US benefits consultancy or specialist actuarial firm.
- Deep experience with funding and accounting valuations under ERISA, the Pension Protection Act and ASC 715, plus PBGC, 417(e) and Form 5500 / Schedule SB work.
- Experience advising on funding strategy, de-risking and pension risk transfer (buyouts, buy-ins, lump sum windows) and on plan design, including cash balance plans.
- Client-facing ownership: you manage accounts and lead junior actuaries today.
- A portable book of business, or the credibility to build a client base quickly.
- Currently below partner level, deep in delivering the work, and ready to build a practice with real upside.
- A clear view on where AI-driven workflows can replace analyst labor and how to validate the results.
- An entrepreneurial mindset: energized by rebuilding the firm itself rather than building software to sell to existing firms.
- Based in the United States. Our business units serve US clients only.
Compensation
- Market base salary
- Uncapped variable compensation tied to revenue generated
- Equity grant in Infinity
