Field Services Technician
OpConnect exists to make EV charging simple, reliable, and everywhere it needs to be—so fleets, workplaces, and multifamily properties can switch to electric without friction. As our Field Services Technician you’ll be the person who turns that promise into working hardware: installing, commissioning, and keeping stations online so drivers charge, operators get paid, and carbon stays out of the air. Your work is the last mile of the energy transition.
Performance Objectives
- Complete 8–12 professional installations or major upgrades per month, meeting manufacturer specs, local electrical code, and customer sign-off on first visit 90% of the time.
- Diagnose and restore 95% of downed chargers within 24 hours of ticket assignment, documenting root cause and parts used in the cloud platform so the next tech (or remote support) can finish the job.
- Commission new sites end-to-end—network provisioning, payment testing, load-management validation—so they go live on the promised date and generate revenue from day one.
- Build a preventive-maintenance cadence that drops unplanned downtime 30% within six months across your assigned territory.
- Capture high-quality photos, voltage readings, and as-built notes on every visit so engineering and software teams can improve hardware and firmware without another truck roll.
- Train on-site contacts (property managers, fleet supervisors) in 15 minutes or less so they can handle basic resets and know exactly when to call you.
Environment & Resources
You report to the Director of Field Operations and work as a one-person crew across the Portland metro and Pacific Northwest. You’ll have a fully stocked service van, company laptop with our ticketing/CRM stack, manufacturer diagnostic tools, and a parts budget you help set. Engineering and software sit one Slack message away; you’ll spend most days on customer sites and some days in our Portland shop staging gear or debriefing the product team.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven ability to install and troubleshoot Level 2 and DC-fast EVSE (or comparable commercial electrical/mechanical systems) under real-world time pressure.
- Valid electrical license or equivalent documented experience plus comfort working at heights, in weather, and around live 208–480 V circuits.
- Track record of first-visit resolution rates above 85% and clean, photo-rich work orders that others can act on.
- Clean driving record and willingness to travel overnight 1–2 nights per week as the network grows.
- Ability to explain technical issues in plain language to non-technical site hosts and close the loop in our cloud platform the same day.
Role Selling Points
- Direct line of sight from your wrench turns to tons of CO₂ avoided—every charger you keep online is a fossil-fuel mile that never happens.
- Early-stage company: your field data shapes the next hardware revision and the software features customers actually use.
- Private-label work means you’ll see your installations wearing enterprise and municipal brands, not just ours.
- Small team, real ownership: you help write the playbook instead of following a 200-page SOP.
