Working Pattern: Rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends
About Chemify
Chemify is creating a future where important molecules, drugs, and currently unimaginable new materials are instantly accessible, radically increasing the speed of innovation and discovery.
We are building the infrastructure to digitize chemistry through a combination of robotics, artificial intelligence, purpose-built programming languages, and automated synthesis technology.
Backed by leading global investors, including Triatomic Capital, BlueYard Ventures, DCVC, and Founders Fund, Chemify is transforming how molecules are designed, discovered, and synthesized.
About the Role
We are looking for an Analysis Review Scientist to join our growing chemistry team.
In this role, you'll review and interpret analytical data generated by our automated synthesis platform, primarily using 1H-NMR and UPLC-MS, to determine whether chemical reactions and purifications have achieved their expected outcomes.
This is a computer-based scientific role rather than a traditional laboratory position. You'll work with digital spectra, review reaction results, and make scientifically informed decisions that help keep our chemistry operations moving.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute feedback and ideas as we continue developing automation for analytical data interpretation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Interpret 1H-NMR spectra and UPLC-MS results to assess reaction success, identify unexpected outcomes, and evaluate potential impurities.
- Review approximately 35–45 analytical work orders per shift while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Make independent scientific decisions on reaction outcomes, escalating complex or ambiguous results when necessary.
- Collaborate with synthetic chemists, project operations managers, and other internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of analytical findings and decisions in our digital systems.
- Identify recurring issues and provide feedback to improve analytical workflows and automation.
- Work within a rotating shift schedule supporting our seven-day chemistry operations.
What We're Looking For
Essential qualifications and experience
- PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery, or a closely related discipline with strong synthetic chemistry experience.
- Strong understanding of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and expected reaction outcomes.
- Experience interpreting 1H-NMR and UPLC-MS analytical data.
- Ability to evaluate spectral data, identify unexpected results, and make sound scientific judgments.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and clear communication.
- Comfortable working independently in a high-volume, structured environment.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable
- Experience with 2D NMR interpretation, including COSY, HSQC, or HMBC.
- Familiarity with MestreNova or similar analytical software.
- Experience identifying process improvements or contributing to scientific automation initiatives.
Working Location and Schedule
This position is open to candidates based in the United Kingdom.
Initial training will take place onsite at our Glasgow facility. Following training, the role can be performed remotely, with flexibility to work onsite where appropriate.
The team operates seven days a week, with rotating early and late shifts, including weekend coverage.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive base salary, £30,000 to £40,000 annually
- 10% annual bonus
- 8% company pension contribution
- Additional compensation for unsocial working hours
- Enhanced annual leave
- Employee assistance programme
- Initial training and ongoing professional development
Career Development
As Chemify continues to grow, you'll have opportunities to develop your scientific expertise and contribute to the evolution of automated chemistry.
We support employee development through regular manager conversations, individual development planning, and opportunities to explore other roles within the wider organization as they become available.
Our Recruitment Process
Our recruitment process is designed to understand both your scientific knowledge and your approach to solving practical chemistry problems.
Candidates may be invited to complete an initial AI-assisted screening interview, followed by a short online conversation with our hiring managers.
Successful candidates will then be invited to our Glasgow facility for an onsite interview, including technical assessments, conversations with the team, and an opportunity to learn more about our operations.
Right to Work
Applicants must already have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
